Community Foundation: A Definition
A Community Foundation is a vehicle through which individuals, businesses and other organizations can support the long-term stability and vitality of a particular city or geographical area. It is a tax-exempt organization formed by and for the people to attract and manage endowed (permanently invested) funds. The Foundation provides financial support to charitable causes and organizations by distributing income from those funds back into the community.
Community Foundations are unique, unlike most non-profit charitable organizations, they are not single-purpose or special interest organizations. They are not users of funds. They provide vital support to a wide range of non-profit charitable organizations in their community.
Thanks to donors from all walks of life foundations have been helping communities across Canada since 1921.
